Roman emperors spanned the reigns of
Septimius Severus (A.D. 193-211),
Caracalla (211-217),
Macrinus (217-218),
Heliogabalus (218-222), and
Alexander Severus (222-235).
The women of the Severan dynasty, beginning with Septimius Severus's wife Julia Domna, were notably active in advancing the careers of their male relatives.
