Amendment XIX (the
Nineteenth Amendment) of the
United States Constitution states:
- The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
- power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation">Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
This amendment gives the right to vote to women.
On February 27, 1922 a challenge to the 19th Amendment was rebuffed by the Supreme Court of the United States.
