Athenaeus (ca.
200) was a
Greek writer, best remembered for his
anthological anecdote collection
Deipnosophistae of ancient authors. He also wrote
Deipnosophistai (
The Learned Banquet), abook about two people discussing

He is also called Athenaeus of Naucratis, since he was born in Naucratis, Egypt. Little else is known about him, except from what his books tell.
